Pistons Legacy Tee
Detroit Pistons (T-Shirt Design Case Study)
.
The idea for this arose from a random sketch I made during lunch one day.
.
Goal:
Design a t-shirt celebrating the legacy of the Detroit Pistons franchise, using its familiar iconography in a manner never seen.
This piece should be reflective of the community celebrating said legacy.
Therefore, a local artist will design it, & each shirt will have a QR code linking fans to the artist’s work.
.
Inspiration:
Bad Boy Pistons Era merch, gritty lined caricatures of players complimented by the use of halftones.
.
Iconography Key:
1.) Skull/Crossbones& Halftone use
*refers to Pistons Bad Boys Era Merch, when they won their first 2 championships (’89, ’90).
2.) Flame
*refers to the flamed horse logotype
used on jerseys during both the Grant Hill Era & Going To Work Era (’04).
3.) Basketball
*refers to the basketball commonly
used in the classic logo.
4.) Lightning
*refers to the bolt seen on uniforms
worn in the 70’s.
5.) Pistons
*refers to pistons in an engine & Detroit’s historic contributions to the automobile industry.
